If you will be away for less than four weeks, use these tips to prepare your refrigerator before you leave.

1.Use up any perishables and freeze other items.

If you will be gone for a month or more, follow these steps to prepare your refrigerator.

1.Remove all food from the refrigerator.

2.If your refrigerator has an automatic ice maker:

l Turn off the water supply to the ice maker at least one day ahead of time.

a When the last load of ice drops, turn off the ice maker. Make sure all ice is dispensed out of the ice maker mechanism.

3.Unplug the refrigerator.

4.Clean it, wipe it, and dry well.

5.Tape rubber or wood blocks to the tops of both doors to prop them open far enough for air to get in. This stops odor and mold from building up.

Longues vacances
