Before inspecting, cleaning or servicing the machine, shut off engine, wait for all moving parts to come to a complete stop, disconnect spark plug wire and move wire away from spark plug. Remove the key from the keyswitch on units so equipped.

Failure to follow these instructionscan result in serious personal injury or property damage.

pull down on the belt and roll it onto the large, forward-most groove of the trans- mission pulley (P, Figure 5-20).

7.Reinstallthe belt cover.

8.Test for correct tension on the forward clutch belt (see CheckingForward Belt Tension).

REVERSE CLUTCH BELT REMOVAL

AND REPLACEMENT

Figure5-22: Right-side view.

The reverseclutch belt (J, Figure 5-22) is driven by the enginedrive pulley (I, Figure 5-20). When the ReverseClutch Control knob is pulled out, it pulls the reverse idler arm and pulley (N) which tightens the belt againstthe engine drive pulley. This drivesthe transmission drive pulley (L), resulting in reversemotion.

RemovingReverse ClutchBelt

1.Stop engine, allow it to cool and dis- connect spark plug wire before working nearbelts. Also remove ignition key on electric start models.

2.Remove belt cover (Figure5-13) by removingtwo flange Iocknuts.

3.Pull the reverseclutch belt downward and slip it off the transmission pulley (L, Figure5-22),

4.Usetwo 1/2" wrenches to loosen and remove wire belt guide (R, Figure5-22) from the reverse idler arm pulley. Do not remove Iocknut and screw.

5.Removethe reversebelt and pull it out through front of transmission housing.

Installing ReverseClutch Belt

1.Stop engine, allow it to cool and dis- connect spark plug wire before working near belts. Also remove ignition keyon electric start models.

IMPORTANT: The forward clutch belt must be installed beforethe reverse clutch belt.

2.Install the forward clutch belt (see Installing Forward Clutch Belt in this section) before installing reversebelt.

IMPORTANT:The reversebelt has a 'V" shape. When installing the belt, make sure that the widest (flat) side of the belt rides againstthe reverseidler pulley (N, Figure 5-22) andtransmission pulley (L). If needed, the belt can be twisted "inside out" so that the "V" shaped side is on the outside and the widest side is on the inside.

3. Insert the belt down into the front of the transmission housing. Slip the top half of the belt onto the reverseidler arm pulley (N).

4.Pull the belt downward and loop the bottom half of belt around the front groove of transmission pulley (L, Figure 5-22).

5.Mount the belt guide betweenthe two flat washers andtighten snugly. The guide needs adjusting beforefully

tightening.

Figure 5-23: Reverse belt guide positioning.

6.(You will needan assistant to help with this step.) Pull the reverse idler pulley (N) up to its highest point and position the belt guide (R) horizontally level as shown in Figure5-23. Securely tighten the screw and lock nut (M, Figure 5-22).

7.Pull back on the ReverseClutch Control knob and makesure that the reverseclutch belt fully contacts the groove in the engine pulley. Releaseknob and makesure that the belt doesn't engagethe reverseengine pulley. This may causethe unit to move in reverse when the Wheel GearLever is engaged. Adjust the cable for less tension if this condition occurs. See Checkingand Adjusting ReverseBelt Tensionfor more information.

8.Reinstallthe belt cover andsecure it with two flange Iocknuts.

9.Test the unit in an open location.

E666MM, 664DM specifications

The Troy-Bilt 664DM and E666MM models are well-regarded in the realm of outdoor power equipment, particularly within the segment of garden tillers. Both tillers are designed to deliver exceptional performance, making them ideal choices for home gardeners and landscaping enthusiasts alike.

The Troy-Bilt 664DM features a robust 210cc engine that provides ample power for breaking up hard soil and preparing garden beds. Its 18-inch tilling width allows for efficient coverage, making quick work of larger plots of land. One of the key features of the 664DM is its dual-direction tilling capability, which means it can till forward and backward. This innovative design helps to improve soil aeration and allows for a more thorough mixing of soil, compost, and nutrients. With a convenient depth adjustment feature, users can easily modify the tilling depth to accommodate different gardening needs, ranging from shallow tilling for seedbed preparation to deeper tilling for planting.

On the other hand, the Troy-Bilt E666MM goes above and beyond with its innovative features tailored for ease of use and efficiency. Powered by a 270cc engine, this tiller is engineered for heavy-duty tasks and can handle larger areas with ease. It boasts a 16-inch tilling width and a maximum tilling depth of up to 12 inches, making it an excellent option for breaking new ground or revamping existing gardens.

A standout feature of the E666MM is the inclusion of Troy-Bilt’s patented "Power Reverse" technology. This allows operators to effortlessly reverse the tilling direction, reducing the effort required when maneuvering in tight spaces or around garden obstacles. Additionally, the E666MM includes a durability-enhancing cast iron gear case and sealed ball bearings, ensuring a long-lasting and low-maintenance experience.

Both models emphasize user comfort with ergonomic handlebars and adjustable grips, minimizing strain during extended tilling sessions. The easy-to-start engines incorporate advanced combustion technology, promoting fuel efficiency while reducing emissions.

In summary, the Troy-Bilt 664DM and E666MM tillers standout in the garden tilling market for their robust construction, cutting-edge technologies, and user-friendly characteristics, making them suitable choices for both novice and experienced gardeners looking to elevate their outdoor gardening projects.
