Chapter 5. Troubleshooting
The following four types of installation problems might cause your DS4000 FC 4Gbps
vHardware problems
vSoftware problems
vSystem configuration problems
vFibre Channel problems
If you are having problems, use the following information to help you determine the cause of the problem and the action to take.

Hardware problems
To determine if your installation problem is caused by the hardware, perform the following tasks:
vVerify that all cables are attached securely to the correct connectors. Be sure that one end of the
vVerify that the FC 4Gbps
vVerify that the Fast!UTIL
vVerify that all peripheral devices are turned on. See “Fibre Channel problems” on page 32 for information about displaying attached Fibre Channel devices.
vVerify that the adapter is ServerProven™ for the server model in which the adapter is installed. Verify that the latest BIOS is installed in the server.
Software problems
To determine if your installation problem is caused by the software, perform the following tasks:
vVerify that the correct device driver is installed.
vVerify that your adapter is at the correct BIOS version.
vVerify that you have the correct adapter NVRAM settings for your Storage Area Network (SAN) and operating system.
System configuration problems
To determine if your installation problem is caused by the system configuration, check your server to ensure that it is configured properly. For more information, see “Host bus adapter settings” on page 24.
