Using the flasutil BIOS Update Utility menu

Complete the following steps to update the DS4000 FC 4Gbps PCI-X Adapter BIOS code, using the flasutil BIOS Update Utility menu:

1.CD: Insert the IBM System Storage DS4000 FC 4Gbps PCI-X Host Bus Adapter Support CD into the CD-ROM drive. Restart the server. Your server starts to a DOS prompt.

Diskette: Insert the BIOS Update Utility diskette into the diskette drive and restart the server. Your server starts to a DOS prompt.

2.From the DOS prompt, type: flasutil

3.Press Enter.

4.If you have only one adapter installed, go to Step 5. If you have more than one adapter installed, a list of adapters and I/O addresses displays. At the command prompt, type the appropriate I/O address and press Enter.

5.The following option menu displays.

F = Write Flash

FB = Write MultiFlash image

W = Copy Flash to file: QLxxROM.SAV S = Display serial number

V = Display current BIOS version C = Verify Flash

Y = Display port name L = Write NVRAM

A = Write NVRAM and defaults

D = Copy NVRAM to file: QLxxNVRM.SAV U = Update BIOS NVRAM defaults

X = Verify NVRAM

Notes:

a.All of the listed options are supported and can be run from the command-line. Options L, A, D, U, and X might not display.

b.Caution: Do not use the F or FR options to update the FC 4Gbps PCI-X Adapter BIOS (Flash). The /F option is used for updating the BIOS of the IBM FC2 or FC2-133 2 Gb Host Bus Adapters, only.

c.Each adapter can be configured with more than one option.

d.Because there is only one BIOS (Flash) area in a dual port FC 4Gbps PCI-X Adapter, entering option FB for the second port I/O address of a dual port adapter, will result in command completion with no BIOS status message displayed.

6.Type the letter for the option you want and press Enter.

7.If you have additional adapters installed, or if you want to configure your adapter with more than one option, continue with Step 8; otherwise, go to Step 9.
