you

a

of

this

option

software

which

comes

with

it,

as

some

information

you

will

need

before

you

install

 

the

The

IBM

 

can

write

and

read

CD-RW

 

(CD-ReWritable)

and

CD-R

(CD-Recordable)

 

 

 

 

 

discs,

and

can

 

read

 

mass-produced

 

stamped

CDs. As

a

result,

CDs

created

by

this

drive

are

compatible

with

MR

(Multi-Read)

CD-ROM

and

DVD-ROM

drives

that

can

 

 

 

read

CD-RW

discs

 

and

other

 

media

types,

and

with

older

non-MR

CD-ROM

drives

 

 

 

that

can

read

only

CD-R

and

CD-ROM

 

discs.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The

drive

writes to

 

CD-RW

and

 

CD-R

discs

at

different

speeds.

The

drive

can

write

to

a

CD-RW

disc

at

 

up

to

four

times

the standard CD-ROM

speed,

recording

data

at

up to

1200

KB

 

per

 

second. At

this

rate,

the

drive

can

record

approximately

650

MB

 

 

 

 

1

of

information

on

 

a

CD-RW

disc

in

 

about

18

minutes.

The

drive

can

write

to

a

CD-R

disc

at

 

up

to

 

eight

 

times

the

 

standard CD-ROM

speed,

recording

data

at

up

 

to

2400

KB

per second. At this rate,

 

the

drive

can

record

approximately

650

MB

 

of

 

 

 

information

 

on

a

 

CD-R

disc

in

about

nine

minutes.

The

drive

can

also

read

data

at

up

to

32

times the

standard

 

CD-ROM

 

speed,

or

9600

KB

per

second.

To

use

 

the

drive’s

CD-recording

function,

you

must install

the

Easy

 

CD

 

 

 

Creator/DirectCD

 

software

(included)

for
