Hardware Upgrade and Maintenance
This appendix contains procedures for installing a new firmware update and replacing the AC fuse.
Opening the switcher
Before you can perform the hardware upgrade or maintenance procedures, you must open the switcher. The interior of the CrossPoint 42 switcher is accessed by removing the top cover.
To open the CrossPoint 42, do the following:
1.Disconnect the power cord from the switcher.
2.If the switcher is rack mounted, remove the switcher from the rack and place it on a clean workspace.
3.Remove the 14 screws that secure the switcher’s top cover as shown in figure B-1.

4.Lift the top cover straight up as shown in figure B-1. Lift the cover evenly to clear the grooves at the edge of the rear panel.
Closing the switcher
1. | Reinstall any cables removed. To plug a self-latching cable into the desired |
| receptacle, align the holes in the connector with the pins in the receptacle, |
| then press evenly until the receptacle tabs lock into place. |
2. | Place the top cover in place and replace all the screws removed in Opening the |
| switcher on page B-2. |
Installing a firmware update
The IC that contains the firmware for the matrix switcher also contains the memory in which audio levels are saved. When you replace the IC, these settings will be lost. You may want to record the audio levels before you replace the IC.
