SRM-100 - Secure Rack Modem, User's Guide

Operation

7.2.1. The System Password

The System Password restricts user access to the SRM Command Mode via modem and via the Console Port. The Command Mode allows system administrators to invoke commands to select configuration parameters, edit the password directory, and review connection activity.

The SRM allows definition of one System Password, which is defined via the General Parameters Menu (/G). The default System Password is "SUPER". Note that the System Password is case sensitive.

When the SRM is accessed via the Console Port, a password prompt will be displayed (if the Console Port Password has been defined). If the System Password or Console Port Password is entered at this prompt, you will be allowed to access the SRM Command Mode. Likewise, when the SRM answers an incoming call, the password prompt is also displayed. However, in this case, if the System Password is entered, the caller is still granted access to the Command Mode; but if a User Password is entered, the caller will be allowed to access the secure device.

Notes:

If the System Password is cleared or deleted at the General Parameters menu, remote users will not be able to access the SRM Command Mode via modem.

When defining the System Password, it is recommended that you record the password for future reference.

If you lose your System Password, the only way to access the Command Mode is to access the Command Mode via the Console Port (as described in

Section 5.1.1.), or reinitialize the unit to default parameters as described in Section 4.4.

7.2.2. The Console Port Password

The Console Port Password restricts access to the SRM-100 Command Mode via the Console Port only. The SRM allows definition of one Console Port Password, which is defined via the General Parameters Menu (/G). The default Console Port Password is undefined.

Notes:

If the Console Port Password is not defined, local users will be able to access the SRM Command Mode via the Console port without entering a password.

The Console Port Password cannot be used to access the SRM Command Mode via Modem.

The Console Port Password can be identical to the System Password.

7.2.3. User Passwords

User Passwords allow callers to access the secure device connected to the SRM's serial Modem Port. User Passwords do not grant access to the Command Mode. The SRM-100 allows definition of up to one hundred User Passwords, which are defined via the Edit Password Directory Menu (/E) as described in Section 6. Note that User Passwords are case sensitive.
