Telephone companies offer both pulse and tone dialing. The Memory Printer will use tone dialing unless you change it. Most tone dialing services will allow you to use rotary (pulse) dialing, but some rotary services will not allow you to use tone dialing.
To set the Memory Printer for Pulse Dialing:

ACOUSTIC/DIRECT CONNECT MODE SELECTION
The Memory Printer will automatically be in the Direct connect mode whenever you have your TDD plugged into the phone line. Otherwise it is in the acoustic mode and you must place your telephone handset in the coupler (see page 11).
