This chapter describes how to install the cable modem using the Ethernet port. Using the Ethernet port enables you to use a single connection to the Internet or use a hub to connect multiple computers to the cable modem. You can also use multiple IP addresses from your cable operator when using the Ethernet connection. See “Installing the Cable Modem Using the USB Port” in this manual to set up the USB Connection.
You can use the Ethernet port to connect to the Internet with the following operating systems: Windows 95, Windows 98, W indows 98SE, Windows 2000, Windows Me, Windows NT, Macintosh 7.6 (or later), and other popular operating systems.
Verify the TCP/IP Protocol Configuration
Before installing the modem using the Ethernet setup, you must verify that your computer has the TCP/IP protocol installed. Follow the procedure for your operating system to verify or install the TCP/IP protocol.
