Setting Security Precautions on the Cisco WVC2300

The following is a complete list of security precautions to take (at least steps 1 through 4 should be followed):

NOTE These steps apply to the Cisco WVC2300 camera.

STEP 1 Change the default SSID from the Setup > Basic window in the Wireless settings.

Change the SSID periodically.

STEP 2 Disable SSID Broadcast on your access point or wireless router.

STEP 3 Change the default password for the administrator account from the

Administration > Users window.

STEP 4 Use the highest encryption algorithm possible.

Use WPA if it is available. From the Setup > Basic window, scroll to Wireless settings. Please note that this may reduce your network performance.

If using WEP, change the WEP encryption keys periodically. From the Setup > Basic window, scroll to Wireless settings.

NOTE Some of these security features are available only through the network router or access point. Refer to the router or access point’s documentation for more information.
