Basic Operations

This chapter explains the basic playback common for DVD, audio CD and video CD. The illustrations in the left column here show the buttons of the remote control unit to be operated, however, you may use the corresponding buttons on the front panel of the player.

Playing back

OPEN/CLOSE

1.

Press OPEN/CLOSE to open the disc tray.

2.

Place the disc in the tray with the label side up.

Notes: When loading a disc in the tray, be sure to position the disc inside the recess. Otherwise, the disc may be damaged when the tray is closed, and the disc may not be removed from the player.

3. Press 3 to close the tray.

The player starts playback from the beginning of the disc.

If a menu appears:

Refer to “Selecting from menu items” on the next page.

To stop playback:

Press 7.

To pause playback:

Press 8. Pressing 3 resumes playback.

To move fast forward or fast backward:

Hold down 4/1 or ¢/Á. Releasing the button returns the player to the normal playback mode.

*Both fast forward and fast backward move slowly for a while and then quickly thereafter.

*During fast forward or fast backward with a DVD disc or video CD, no audio is output.

If it seems that the picture’s vertical/horizontal ratio is not correct when playing back a DVD video disc, set the MONITOR TYPE in the PREFERENCE display correctly. See “Preferences via “PREFERENCE” on-screen display” on page 53.

Some functions like fast forward or fast backward are disabled because of the recording method of DVD discs. In this case, the functions do not work even if the operations are done.
