IMAGE RETENTION

Image Retention can be an issue for any plasma display, and is caused by displaying fixed (non-moving) images for extended periods of time. If you follow this simple guideline below you will enjoy a high quality picture for many years to come.

“On-Screen Display”

Hitachi has included a number of features, which help to reduce image retention. Please refer to the user manual for this mode for additional instructions on how to use these features. To avoid image retention, please follow these simple guidelines.

Activate the Screen Saver Mode.

Use Aspect Ratio modes that completely fill the screen with picture.

- Make sure 4 x 3 aspect ratio and letterbox images are not displayed more than 15 of total viewing time. Avoid using split screen (PIP) modes for long periods of time.

Do not display still images, such as menus from game consoles, PCs or logos, on the monitor screen for long periods of time. Reduce the “Contrast” level setting to the lowest acceptable setting.

NOTE

About screen defects

ξHigh precision technology is used in the making of plasma panels but there may be dark spots (points that do not illuminate) and bright spots (points that are too bright) in some cases. These do not indicate a malfunction.

About residual images

ξIn some cases, residual images may remain after the short-term display of still images and another image is displayed, but these will disappear and return to normalcy. This is not a malfunction.

About the panel screen

ξPlasma displays display images by means of electrical discharges inside the panel. Because of this, the temperature of the panel surface may rise in some cases. Also, plasma displays are made of finely processed glass. A reinforced glass filter is installed over the panel surface but avoid strong impact because there is still danger of glass breakage.
