RTS/DCD (V.35) or CONT/IND (X.21) OFF (in control contention) 16 bits of idle data (in data contention)

Sub-channel Disabling

Manual: Via front panel switches

Automatic: If sub-channel stays connected for more than a pre-set time period (32.4, 4, 0.5 sec for 64 or 48 kbps; 36.8, 4.7 or 0.6 for 56 kbps)
