Notes on MP3/DivX

What is MP3/DivX?

MP3: MP3 (MPEG Audio Layer-3) is the compression format of digital audio. It is developed by MPEG (Motion Picture Experts Group). Using this compression format, the contents of about 10 music CDs can be recorded on a single CD (This figure refers to data recorded on a 650 MB CD-R or CD-RW at a fixed bit rate of 128 kbps and a sampling frequency of 44.1 kHz).

DivX: The video compression format developed by DivX, Inc. compresses video files without any considerable loss of video quality.

Note: Each of the encoding software programs is not included with this unit.

as to compressed audio

¡High bit rate and high sampling frequency are recom- mended for high quality sounds.

¡Selecting VBR (Variable Bit Rate) is not recommended because playing time is not displayed properly and sound may be skipped.

¡The playback sound quality differs depending on the encoding circumstances. For details, refer to the user manual of your own encoding software and writing software.

¡Be sure to put an extension compatible with the for- mat.

¡It is recommended that the length of the file name is less than 8 characters (excluding the file extension).

¡It is recommended to set the bit rate to “128 kbps or more” and “fixed”.

DivX

¡DivX files greater than 2 GB or having no index may not play properly on this unit.

¡This unit supports all resolutions up to maximum of 720 x 480 (NTSC)/720 x 576 (PAL).

¡You can select up to 8 types of audios and subtitles on this unit.

¡GMC (Global Motion Compensation) is not supported.
