Changing the unit’s settings

Summary of settings

ºDisc—Audio, Subtitle and Menus [DVD-V]

Original: The original language of each disc will be selected.

Other ¢¢¢¢: Input a code number with the numbered buttons (see below).

Automatic: If the language selected for “Audio” is not available, subtitles of that language will automatically appear if available on that disc.

³Some discs are designed to start in a certain language despite any changes you make here.

ºVideo—3-D Y/C Separation

On: Reduces noise for recording by separating the luminance (Y) and color (C) signals received from the television station.

Off: Reduces the ghosting that occurs when recording fast moving images.

ºVideo—Hybrid VBR Resolution

Automatic: The unit automatically switches resolution rates during recording. The unit reduces block noise, which occurs during MPEG compression, by selecting the optimum rate.

Fixed: The resolution rate is fixed during recording. This en-

sures the resolution rate is not reduced.

ºVideo—Still Mode

Field: Less blurred field stills are shown. Select if jittering occurs when “Automatic” is selected.

Frame: Sharper frame stills are shown. Select if small text or fine patterns cannot be seen clearly when “Automatic” is selected.

Initial settings

ºVideo—Black Level Control

Lighter: when connected to a TV through the VIDEO OUT or S VIDEO OUT terminal.

Darker: when connected to a TV through the COMPONENT VIDEO OUT (Y/PB/PR) terminals.

ºVideo—Seamless Play

On: The scenes in play lists created with this unit are played seam- lessly. This may cause shifting of the points where scenes change. Some play lists cannot be played seamlessly.

Off: The points where scenes in play lists are played accurately, but this may cause the picture to freeze for a moment when scenes change.

ºDisplay—FL Display

Dim during DVD/VCD play: The unit’s display dims during play of discs with video recorded. (The TIME SLIP indicator is off while the display is dimmed.)

ºTV Screen—4:3 TV Settings for DVD-Video

Pan&Scan: Video recorded for a widescreen is played with the sides cut off if the pan & scan was specified by the producer of the disc. 16:9 software prohibited from be- ing shown in the pan and scan style will appear in the letterbox style (with black bands above and below the picture) despite the setting here.

Letterbox: Video recorded for a widescreen is played in the letter- box style.

ºTV Screen—4:3 TV Settings for DVD-RAM

4:3: Programs played as recorded.

Pan&Scan: Video recorded for a widescreen is played as pan & scan.

Letterbox: Video recorded for a widescreen is played in the letter- box style.
