Using the Flash for Still Pictures

When you take pictures at night, indoors, or outdoors in heavy shadows, your pictures need flash. The camera flash is effective when you are 1.6 to 10.5 feet (0.5 to 3.2 m) from your subject. In Telephoto, the flash is effective from 1.6 to 7.5 feet (0.5 to 2.3 m).

NOTE: Flash is available for still pictures, but not for video recording.

MENU

SELECT

Press the button repeatedly to scroll through the flash options.

The flash icon that is displayed on the LCD Status Bar (page 13) is the active option.

Auto Flash—flash fires when the lighting conditions require it.

Off—flash never fires.

Fill—flash fires every time you take a picture, regardless of the lighting conditions.

Red-eye—flash fires once so the subject’s eyes become accustomed to the flash, then fires again when the picture is taken. Ideal for pictures of people. The Red-eye option remains in effect until you change it.

NOTE: All flash options revert to Auto when the camera is turned off, except Red-eye.
