CAUTION: If you have heart prob- lems, or if you are over 60 years of age and have been inactive, do not use the heart rate programs. If you are taking medication regu- larly, consult your physician to find whether the medication will affect your exercise heart rate.

1 Put on the optional chest pulse sensor.

You must wear the optional chest pulse sensor (see page 23) to use a heart rate program. See

2 Insert the key fully into the console.

3 Select a heart rate program.

When the key is in- serted, the manual

mode will be selected. To select a heart rate

program, press the Program Select button

repeatedly until one of the two heart rate program indicators lights.

The diagrams beside the heart rate program indi- cators show how the target heart rate will change during the programs. During the 85% Max pro- gram, your heart rate will reach approximately

85% of your estimated maximum heart rate; dur- ing the Self Select program, your heart rate will re- main near a level that you select. Note: Your esti- mated maximum heart rate is determined by sub- tracting your age from 220. For example, if you are 30 years old, your estimated maximum heart rate is 190 beats per minute (220 – 30 = 190).

During heart rate pro- grams, the matrix will show a moving graphic that represents your heart rate. Each time a heartbeat is detected, an additional peak will appear.

4 Enter your age.

When a heart rate pro-

gram is selected, the word “AGE” and the cur- rent age setting will flash in the Calories/Pulse

your age, the letters “SPd” and the maximum speed setting of the pro-

gram will flash in the Speed display. If de-
