Setting the Dynamic Range —DYNAMIC RANGE (4)

DYNAMIC RANGE	Using the Midnight mode, you
	can enjoy a powerful sound at
MIDNIGHT MODE : OFF	night even at a low volume level.

7Setting the Midnight mode:

Select one of the following:

1: Select this when you want to reduce the dynamic range a little. The MIDNIGHT MODE indicator lights up on the display.

2: Select this when you want to apply the compress effect fully (useful at midnight). The MIDNIGHT MODE indicator lights up on the display.

OFF : Select this when you want to enjoy surround with its full dynamic range (no effect applied). The MIDNIGHT MODE indicator goes off from the display.

Notes:

•If Line Direct is in use, Midnight mode is temporarily canceled.

•Midnight mode is not valid for the THX Surround modes and DVD MULTI playback mode.

Preparing for THX Surround Modes—THX (5)

			On this submenu screen, you can

THX SURR EX	: AUTO
			the THX Surround EX to
		:OPERATE playback software when you
		:BACK	press THX ON/OFF button. (See
			page 41.)

7Setting THX Surround EX:

Select one of the following:

AUTO : This unit automatically selects either “THX SURR EX” or “THX CINEMA” according to the playback software when you press THX ON/OFF.

•“THX SURR EX” is selected for software encoded with Dolby Digital EX (only if the Dolby Digital EX identification mark is recorded on the disc).

•“THX CINEMA” is selected except for the above case.

ON	: This unit automatically selects either “THX SURR
	EX” or “THX CINEMA” according to the playback
	software when you press THX ON/OFF.
	• “THX SURR EX” is selected for mulitchannel
	digital software.
	• “THX CINEMA” is selected except for the above
	case.
OFF	: When you press THX ON/OFF, “THX CINEMA” is
	always selected for any software.

Note:

When “SURR BK SP” is set to “NONE” on the SPEAKER

SETTING submenu, this submenu is not available.

Setting the Surround Sound Output —SURROUND SPEAKER (6)

		On this submenu screen, you can
SURROUND SPEAKER
		preset which surround speakers
SURROUND SP:L/R
		to use to output the surround
	:OPERATE sounds (except for the THX
	:BACK	Surround EX, DAP modes, and
		DVD MULTI playback mode).

7Setting the surround speakers to use

Select one of the following:

L/R	: Select this to use only the left and right
	surround speakers.
BACK	: Select this to use only the surround back
	speakers.
L/R+BACK	: Select this to use both the surround speakers
	and surround back speakers.

Note:

When “SURR BACK SP” is set to “NONE” on the SPEAKER SETTING menu, this submenu is not available.

To activated the surround back speakers to the PREOUT SURR BACK jacks

Turn on the other amplifier connected to the PREOUT SURR BACK jacks; otherwise, no sound comes out of the surround back speakers even though you made the surround back speaker setting correctly on this submenu.
