12 WHO BLOOD PRESSURE CLASSIFICATION

Fig. 12-1

Fig. 12-2

Fig. 12-3

This device features a 3-color indicator to display the blood pressure level in accordance with the WHO (World Health Organization) classification. The World Health Organization (WHO) has established standards for assessment of blood pressure, regardless of age, as shown in Fig. 12-1:

The indicator displays a black segment next to the green, yellow and red permanently-displayed segments to indicate the WHO classification after a blood pressure measurement is taken. The green segment corresponds with Optimal or Normal blood pressure classification, the yellow with High Normal, and the red with Mild, Moderate, or Severe Hypertension, as shown in Fig. 12-2.

For example, if your blood pressure is 135 mmHg (Systolic Pressure) over 78 mmHg (Diastolic Pressure), according to the World Health Organization standard, your blood pressure classification is High Normal. Three black bars will display next to the colored segment as shown in Fig. 12-3.

Note: If the systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure fall into different categories, use the higher value for classification.
