Theory of Operation

This section describes the additions, changes, and deletions to the information that appears in chapter 3 of the 5071A Primary Frequency Standard Assembly-Level Service manual.

Introduction

A1 Motherboard Circuit Description

Option 048: The second sentence of the paragraph at the bottom of page 3-3 is changed to:

It gives you information about how individual components on A1 and component groups (including A11, A12, and T1) perform their functions and provide dc power to the instrument.

Simplified Functional Description

Option 048: Item 6 text is changed to:

Power distribution; A1, A11, A12, LF1, and T1.

Any TCO Option: The block diagram is changed in the following ways:

The rear-panel Sync Input entering the left side of the Input/Output

Block is absent.

The rear-panel 1 PPS outputs exiting the right side of the Input/

Output Block are absent.

A bi-directional line is added from the right side of the Reference Oscillator/RF-Chain Block to the right border of the diagram with a callout title “Telecommunications Input/Outputs”.

Option 048: The block diagram is changed in the following way:

The B1 Standby Battery in the Power Supply Block is absent.

Reference Oscillator/RF-Chain Block

Any TCO Option: The second paragraph has an added second sentence:

Any telecommunications output option provides a Sync input and four outputs that are fed into and derived from the Reference Oscillator/ RF Chain Block.
