Managing Files on Your PC

Using DSS Player

By connecting the DM-1 to your PC, you will be able to use DSS Player in the following ways:

To play the voice files from your PC.

You can send voice mail by sending an attached voice file with e-mail.*

You can make backup files of the voice files on the SmartMedia card on your PC, and can later

transfer files on your PC to the DM-1, as necessary.

* The e-mail software is not included in this package.

Precautions when handling SmartMedia files on your PC

Using DSS Player

Do NOT format the SmartMedia card using your PC. If you do, the DM-1 will not be able to recognize the SmartMedia card. Only format the cards using either

the DM-1 or the Olympus CAMEDIA digital camera (P.55).

The folder names that can be set with the DM-1 or the included DSS Player are only effective for the DM-1 and DSS Player. Note that the default names on Microsoft Windows' file management software such as Explorer will be different names.

If you change or move around the filenames on the SmartMedia using a file-management tool such as Explorer, note that the order of the files may change and/or you may not be able to recognize the files.

Even if you use your PC and set the SmartMedia card for read only, you will still be able to read from and write to the SmartMedia using the DM-1.
