SLANTED-SIDE JOINTS

Two boards joined at 90°, with one board slanted to the side is known as a slanted-side joint. This method is used to make a box with the ends at right angles to the table, but with the sides tilted outward (cradles, planters, magazine racks).

NOTE: Usually, the tails are cut into the ends and the pins are cut into the sides.

CUTTING THE TAILS

Cut the ends of the tail board at the desired angle. Note that when the angle is approaching 15° that the tails weaken (Fig. 59A).

Mount the board so that the outside surface faces the base of the jig and the edge is against the template (Fig. 59B).

Cut the tails in the same manner as you would the standard dovetails.
