Documentation Overview

PURPOSE OF THIS MANUAL

This manual provides reference material for the ISQL interactive SQL utility as well as the dbload, dbdump, and dbschema administrative tools provided in the c-treeSQL environment. It also includes a tutorial describing how to use the ISQL utility.

AUDIENCE

The reader of this manual should be familiar with general SQL concepts.

STRUCTURE

The manual contains the following chapters:

Chapter 1

Describes the use of Interactive SQL (ISQL) for performing ad-hoc queries

 

and for report generation.

 

 

Chapter 2

Includes tutorials for getting started with ISQL.

 

 

Chapter 3

Includes reference information for ISQL statements.

 

 

Chapter 4

Describes the data load utility, dbload, which is used to load data from files

 

into existing tables of a database.

 

 

Chapter 5

Describes the data unload utility, dbdump.

 

 

Chapter 6

Describes the data definition export utility, dbschema.

 

 

Appendix A

Includes full source code for tutorials.

 

 

SYNTAX DIAGRAM CONVENTIONS

Syntax diagrams appear in Courier type and use the following conventions:

UPPERCASE

Uppercase type denotes reserved words. You must include reserved words in statements, but they can be upper or lower case.
