Glossary

adapter

A computer interface card and circuitry that provides the physical connection and data translation between the host computer’s I/O bus and external devices or networks.

adapter slot

The location where adapters attach to the backplane. SeeSlot.

backplane

For an I/O bus, the computer’s circuitry and connectors to which adapter cards connect.

HP-HSC

HewlettiPackard High-Speed System Connect. Name given to one of the computer system I/O buses.

ISL

Initial System Loader. ISL implements the operating system independent portion of the bootstrap process. ISL is loaded and executed after self-test and initialization have completed successfully. When executed, it loads HP-UX or other operating environments (e.g., ODE “OfilineDiagnostic Environment”) as specified.

LED

Seelight emitting diode.
