Operation

First Firing

Upon completing the gas line connection, a small amount of air will be trapped in the line. When first lighting the unit with pilot light, it will take a few minutes to purge the trapped air. Once purging is complete, the pilot and burner will light and operate as indicated in the instruction manual. Subsequent lightings of the appli- ance will not require purging.

When lit for the first time, the appliance will emit a slight odor for an hour or two. This is due to paint and lubri- cants used in the manufacturing process. After each lighting, vapor may condense and fog the glass; this moisture disappears within a few minutes of burning.

Flame Adjustment

Flame adjustment is accomplished by rotating the Hi/Lo adjustment knob located near the center of the gas control. (Fig. 10)

It is important to periodically perform a visual check of the pilot and the burner flames. (Figures 11 and 12)

When Used as a Heating Appliance

This appliance is equipped with a modulating valve which controls the main burner by a thermostat. As the room temperature increases, the flame will automati- cally lower itself according to the control knob setting.

The thermostatic bulb is located under the log set. If the main burner flame modulates down to a lower level while the control knob is at a higher setting, the bulb may need to be located outside the fireplace.

The SIT 'T' series valve operates from the full clockwise 'LOW' position to the full counterclockwise 'HIGH' position. (Refer to Page 3 for BTU rates.)

When used as an unvented heater, maximum benefit will result when the fireplace flue damper is fully closed.

NOTE: For your safety, the appliance is equipped with an oxygen depletion sensor. This device senses the level of oxygen in the atmosphere and switches off the gas supply in case the level of oxygen falls below a safe level.

The appliance may be used as a heating appliance only if unvented heating appliances are permitted by local, state, and city codes. In locations that do not allow unvented heaters, the chimney must have a permanent chimney opening of not less than 29 square inches.
