Suitable cookware for microwave ovens

Plastics

Plasticware must only be used in the Microwave Solo mode.

It must be heat-resistant and able to withstand temperatures of at least 230°F (110°C).

Otherwise, the plastic may melt and fuse with the food.

Special microwave-safe plasticware is also available from retail stores.

Plasticware made of melamine is not suitable for use in the microwave oven. It absorbs microwave energy and becomes very hot. Before purchasing plasticware, make sure the material is microwave safe.

Plastic cooking bags can be used for cooking and reheating food. They should be pierced beforehand so that steam can escape. This prevents a buildup of steam and reduces the risk of the bag bursting. Specially designed steam cooking bags that do not need to be pierced are also available. Follow the instructions listed on the packaging.

Do not use metal clips, plastic clips with metal parts or paper twist ties containing wire. They can ignite when heated.

Disposable containers

Disposable containers made of plastic must meet the requirements indicated under "Plastics" to be suitable for use in the microwave.

Do not leave the appliance unattended when reheating or cooking food in disposable containers made of plastic, paper or other flammable materials.

Protect the environment by avoiding the use of disposable containers.
