3.2The Backup Component

The backup component of NSR-ORA allows the online as well as offline full or partial backup of an ORACLE database within an archiving process. (see figure 5). In case of an online backup, the database must be in the ARCHIVELOG mode. The extent of an archiving process is defined by means of a configurable file structure in the directory $DBO_CONFIG_DIRECTORY of the NSR-ORA administrator (refer to the section “Configuration and manage- ment”).

In the case of Oracle 8.0 backups, the Oracle shared libraries ibclm.so, libclntsh.so and libmipc.so must be linked to /usr/lib. Where Oracle is used with 64-bit support, these libraries must be linked accordingly to /usr/lib64s.

When backing up Oracle 8.1 under Linux, the Oracle shared libraries libjox8.so, libskgxp8.so and libclntsh.so.8.0 must be linked to /usr/lib. This is the only way that data backup is possible with NSR-ORA.
