6.2.Safety Guidelines

While troubleshooting your Viking FS-1600 Series NAS appliance, follow these safety guidelines:

Never remove the top cover while your appliance is turned on and while the network cable and the power cords are connected.

Make sure that you are grounded correctly before opening the appliance. For more information about preventing damage from static electricity, see “Preventing static electricity discharge” on 4.1.

After you complete any maintenance task where you have to remove the top cover, make sure that you close the case and reconnect all cables before you restart your appliance.

Warning

To avoid bodily injury, do not attempt to troubleshoot your FS-1600 Series NAS appliance problem if:

1)The power cords or plugs are damaged

2)Liquid has been spilled into your appliance

3)Your FS-1600 Series NAS appliance was dropped

4)The case was damaged

Instead, unplug your NAS and contact a qualified computer technician. If your FS-1600 Series NAS appliance was damaged during shipment from Tandberg Data, contact Tandberg Data Technical Support.

6.3.Troubleshooting Steps

The Viking FS-1600 Series NAS appliance does not work.

Make sure that the power button on the front panel is turned on.

Make sure that the power cable is connected correctly.

Turn off the FS-1600 Series NAS appliance by pressing the power button, and then restart again. During the startup procedure, the appliance checks the file system. The length of this check varies depending on the amount of data on the appliance (in some extreme cases, it can take as long as two hours).
