ASSEMBLY
MAINTENANCE FREE BATTERY
IMPORTANT: Before you attach the battery cables to the battery, check the battery date. The battery date tells if the battery must be charged.
1.Check the battery date on top of the battery (Figure 5).
2.If the battery is put into service before the battery date, the battery cables can be attached without charging the battery. See “How To Install The Battery Cables”.
3.If the battery is put into service after the battery date, the battery must be charged. See “How To Charge The Maintenance Free Battery”.
HOW TO CHARGE THE MAINTENANCE FREE BATTERY
WARNING: When you charge the battery, do not smoke. Keep the battery away from any sparks. The fumes from the battery acid can cause an explosion.
1.Remove the battery. See “How To Remove The Battery”.
2.Remove the protective caps from the battery terminals.
3.Use a 12 volt battery charger to charge the battery. Charge at a rate of 6 amperes for one hour. If you do not have a battery charger, have an authorized service center charge the battery.
4.Install the battery. See “How To Install The Battery”.
HOW TO REMOVE THE BATTERY
1.Rotate the battery clamp to the DOWN position (Figure 4 and Figure 5).
2.To remove the battery, tilt the battery forward and then lift the battery.
CAUTION: Do not tilt the battery more than 45 degrees. If the battery tilts more than 45 degrees, battery acid can leak from the battery.

HOW TO INSTALL THE BATTERY
1.Install the battery tray (Figure 6). Make sure the drain on the bottom of the battery tray goes through the hole in the frame as shown in Figure 6.
2.Turn the battery so that the positive (+) terminal is on the right side of the unit. Set the battery in the battery tray.
IMPORTANT: Make sure the battery fits under the tabs at the back of the unit.
3.Rotate the battery clamp to the UP position (Figure 4 and Figure 6).
HOW TO INSTALL THE BATTERY CABLES
WARNING: To prevent sparks, fasten the red cable to the positive (+) terminal before you connect the black cable.
NOTE: Before you attach the battery cables, make sure the battery is fully charged. This will extend the life of the battery and provide the necessary power to start the engine.
Use the fasteners shown below to install the battery cables. The fasteners are shown at full size.
