heateraspracticalatthetimeofwaterheaterinstallation.Thesediment
trapshouldbeeitherateettingwithacappednippleinthebottom
outletorotherdevicerecognizedasaneffectivesedimenttrap.
Contaminantsinthegaslinesmaycauseimproperoperationofthe
gascontrolvalvethatmayresultinreorexplosion.Beforeattaching
thegaslinebesurethatallgaspipeiscleanontheinside.Totrapany
dirtorforeignmaterialinthegassupplyline,adripleg(sometimes
calledasedimenttrap)mustbeincorporatedinthepiping.Thedrip
legmustbereadilyaccessible.Installinaccordancewiththe“Gas
Piping”section.Refer to the current edition of the National Fuel
GasCode(ANSIZ223.1/NFPA54)ortheNaturalGasandPropane
InstallationCode(CAN/CSAB149.1).
fIllInG the water heaterNeverusethiswaterheaterunlessitiscompletelyfullofwater.Toprevent
damagetothetank,thetankmustbelledwithwater.Watermustow
fromthehotwaterfaucetbeforeturning“ON”gastothewaterheater.
Tollthewaterheaterwithwater:
1. Closethewaterheaterdrainvalvebyturningthehandletotheright
(clockwise).Thedrainvalveisonthelowerfrontofthewaterheater.
2.Openthe cold water supply valve to the water heater.
note: the cold water supply valve must be left open when
the water heater is in use.
3. Toinsurecompletellingofthetank,allowairtoexitbyopeningthe
nearesthotwaterfaucet.Allowwatertorununtilaconstantowis
obtained.Thiswillletairoutofthewaterheaterandthepiping.
4. Checkallwaterpipingandconnectionsforleaks.Repairasneeded.

Theventsystem must terminate so that proper clearances

Code(CAN/CSA-B149.1).
