Performance Tests
Test 8. Output Power
1Connect the Agilent 83430A’s OPTICAL OUT connector to a optical power meter.
2Disconnect any cables connected to the Agilent 83430A’s ANALOG IN or DIGITAL
IN input connectors.
3Turn the Agilent83430A on, and press the front-panel PRESET/VARIABLE button
so that the BIAS ADJUST light is off.
4Press the Agilent 83430A’s front-panel SELECT key repeatedly until the DIGITAL
IN DC COUPLED light is on.
5Verify that the optical output power measures 10.0 dBm ±0.2 dB.
6Press the front-panel PRESET/VARIABLE button so that the BIAS ADJUST light is on.
7Turn the front-panel BIAS ADJUST knob fully clockwise.
8Verify that the optical output power does not exceed –2. 5 dBm.
9Turn the front-panel BIAS ADJUST knob fully counterclockwise.
10 Connect the pattern generator’s output to the Agilent83430A’s DIGITAL IN DC
COUPLED input connector.
11 Configure the Agilent 70841B pattern generator to output an ECL logic level 1:
aSet the pattern generator to the following settings. For step-by-step instruc-
tions on setting these values, refer to “Configuring the pattern g enerator” on
page 5-35.
