How to adjust the height of your trimmer (Fig. 3)

Your trimmer has a telescopic body, thus

allowing you to alter its height to give you the

3

most comfortable operating position.

To adjust the height of your trimmer:

Unlock

With the trimmer switched off and the edge guide (9) resting on the ground, place one hand on the switch handle (20). Using your other hand, turn the locking ring (4) anti-clockwise, approximately quarter of a turn (Fig. 3.1).

Adjust

While keeping hold of the switch handle, grasp the trimmer body (1) with your other hand and raise/lower the switch handle to your desired operating position (Fig. 3.4).

Lock

While still holding the switch handle, tighten the locking ring clockwise, using the other hand. Only light finger pressure is required to secure it (Fig. 3.3).

How to alter the position of the secondary handle (Fig. L)

Your trimmer has an adjustable secondary

handle to allow you to position it for maximum

comfort and balance. It can be folded flat for

L

compact storage.

To adjust the handle:

With the trimmer guard resting on the

ground, depress the button (27) with

your hand.

While keeping the button depressed,

lift/lower the secondary handle to the

desired position with your other hand.

Releasing the button will automatically

lock the handle in one of the preset

positions.

How to alter the cutting head angle of your trimmer (Fig. M & N)

Your trimmer has a variable cutting head angle.

To give you the optimum trimming angle independent of your personal height (Fig. C).

ENGLISH

M

To raise the handle to a more comfortable

height when in the edging mode. Tip:

Alter the cutting head angle by lowering

the handle one or two knotches, while in

the trimming mode, prior to converting to

N

the edging mode (Fig. M).

To gain access under benches, garden

furniture and shrubs (Fig. N).

To alter the cutting head angle:

With the guard (6) resting on the ground, depress the pedal (26) with your foot.

Raise/lower the switch handle (20) while keeping the pedal depressed. The cutting head will automatically lock when you remove your foot from the pedal.

Replacement line

A new spool containing 10 metres of cutting line (cat. no. A6481) may be purchased from your Black & Decker dealer. Alternatively, replacement line packs are available containing either 25m (cat. no. A6170), 40m (cat. no. A6171) or 50m (cat. no. A6054) of line.

For maximum reliability, never put on a heavier or lighter line (e.g. fishing line) which will prevent the automatic feed from functioning, cause motor failure or reduce cutting performance.

How to fit a new spool of cutting line (Fig. 4 & 5)

Disconnect your trimmer from the

4

power supply.

Remove the spool cover by pushing the

spool cover tabs (13) inwards and

upwards (Fig. 4), then pull off (it is not

necessary to push both tabs in at the

same time). The empty spool can now

be withdrawn from the drive shaft.

Remove any dirt or grass that may have

collected inside the spool housing (12)

5

and cover (8).

Unwind approximately 9cm (3.5") of cutting

line (5) from the new spool (17). Feed the

cutting line through the eyelet and then push the spool onto the centre drive shaft (Fig. 5). Rotate as necessary to fully seat the spool, taking care not to trap the cutting line underneath the spool and making sure that there is a minimum of 9cm (3.5") protruding from the spool housing.
