5.3 STM Protocol
5.3.1 STM LINKS
The STM protocol is a proprietary protocol used in some statistical multiplexors, such as Stat-4, Stat-8, and
Stat-24 (Part numbers MX864A, MX866A, and MX868A). The Fradswitch may be configured to link with
one of these STMs via any of its sync links to form a multichannel PAD.
The STM channels may be used as PAD channels. They may be configured as a PAD channel via the channel
configuration menu.
5.3.2 STM PTOTOCOL CONFIGURATION
1. In the MAIN MENU press option number 1 (CONFIGURE).
2. Press 3 (Link), then press 1 (Set Link Type).
3. Select any link number between 1 and 3.
4. Select Link type: 6 for Stat-4, 7 for Stat-8, or 8 for Stat-24. Press <return> or <enter>.
5. If you want to work with an internal clock, press 3 in the Link configuration screen
(Update Link Parameters). Select the link number you have chosen for the STM.
6. Press 1 for Internal Clock. You can work with baud rates of 9600, 19,200, or 38,400 Kbps. Note
that in order to work with an internal clock, the hardware of the link interface should be DCE.
7. Reset the Fradswitch.
8. The STM which is connected to the link number you have chosen should synchronize with the
Fradswitch within 30 seconds.
