1) Allcondensate whichformsintheboilerorventsystemcollectsinthesumpundertheheatexchangerandleaves
theboilerthroughthecondensatetrap.Thistrapallowscondensatetodrainfromthesumpwhileretaininguegases
intheboiler.AlengthofdrainhoseissuppliedwiththeboilerandisconnectedtothetrapasshowninFigure6.11.
Thishosemayberoutedthroughthebackoftheboilerortoeithersidethroughtheknockoutsprovided.Routethis
hosetoadrainorothersuitablepointfordisposal.Notethefollowingwhendisposingofthecondensate:
a)Ifthecondensatedrainlinemustbeextended,constructtheextensionfromPVCorCPVCpipe.Insertthehose
providedwiththeboilerintotheendoftheextensionasshowninFigure6.11.
b)Condensateisslightlyacidic.Donotusemetallicpipeorttingsinthecondensatedrainline.Donotroutethe
drainlinethroughareasthatcouldbedamagedbyleakingcondensate.
c)Somejurisdictionsmayrequirethatthecondensatebeneutralizedbeforebeingdisposedof.Disposeof
condensateinaccordancewithlocalcodes.
d)Donotroute,orterminate,thecondensatedrainlineinareassubjectedtofreezingtemperatures.
e)Ifthepointofcondensatedisposalisabovethetrap,itwillbenecessarytouseacondensatepumptomove
thecondensatetothedrain.Insuchcases,selectacondensatepumpthatisapprovedforusewithcondensing
furnaces.Ifoverowfromthispumpwouldresultinpropertydamage,selectapumpwithanoverowswitch
andusethisswitchtoshutdowntheboiler.Alternatively,ifheatisanecessity,usetheoverowswitchtotrigger
an alarm.
f)DonotattempttomovethetrapfromthelocationshowninFigure6.11.Donotattempttosubstituteanothertrap
fortheoneprovidedwiththeboiler.
g)TheventshowninFigure6.11mustbeleftopenforthetraptoworkproperly.
