GBICs are integrated fiber optic transceivers that provide high speed serial links from a port or slot to the network. Various latching mechanisms can be utilized on the GBIC pluggable modules. There is no correlation between the type of latch to the model type (such as SX or LX/LH) or technology type (such as Gigabit Ethernet). See the label on the GBIC for technology type and model. One GBIC model has two clips (one on each side of the GBIC) that secure the GBIC in the slot on the Ethernet card; the other has a locking handle. Both types are shown in Figure
