Mode Functions
microTALKRange
Yourrange will vary depending on terrain and conditions.
Inflat, open country your radio will
operateat maximum range.
Buildingsand foliage in the path of the
signalcan reduce the range of the radio.
Densefoliage and hilly terrain will
furtherreduce the range of the radio.
OnFRS channels 8 through 14, your radio
automaticallyswitches to low power, which
willlimit the range the radio can communicate.
Remember,you can achieve maximum
rangeby using maximum range
extender.See page 6 for details.
ScrollingthroughMode Functions
Byscrolling through the Mode Functions, you will be able to
selector turn on/off preferred features of your microTALK radio.
Whenscrolling through the Mode Functions, your radio features
willbe displayed in the following order:
SetPrivacy Codes
SetNOAA All Hazards Radio Channel
SetVOX On/Off
SetVOX Sensitivity Level
SetMemory Locations
SetChannel Scan
SetPrivacy Code Scan
SetMemory Location Scan
SetCall Tones
SetRoger Beep On/Off
SetKeystroke Tones On/Off
Scrollthrough the mode functions using the Mode/Lock button.
Eachpress and release of the Mode/Lock button will advance to
thenext mode function. Press the Talk button at any point to
returnthe radio to Standby mode.
Operation
CTCSSPrivacy Codes
CTCSS(Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System) is an advanced
tonecoding system allowing you to select one of 38 privacy codes
toreduce interference from other users on the channel.
Ifyou are using a privacy code, both radios must
betuned to the same channel and privacy code to
communicate.Each channel will remember the
lastprivacy code you selected.
Toselect a privacy code:
1.After selecting a channel, press
theMode/Lock button until the small
numbersnext to the channel number
flashon the display.
2.Press using the Channel Up or Channel Down
buttonto select a privacy code. You can hold
theUp or Down button for fast advance.
3.When your desired privacy code is displayed,
chooseone of the following:
a.Press the Mode/Lock button to enter the
newsetting and proceed to other functions.
b.Press the Enter/Hi•Low button to enter the
newsetting and return to Standby mode.
c.Do not press any buttons for 15 seconds
toenter the new setting and return to
Standbymode.
