Grounding or Polarizatio n: This product may be equ ipped with a polar ized alternating -
current line plug that has one blade wider than the othe r. This plug will only t into the power
outlet in one direction. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the plug fully into the
outlet, try reversing the dire ction of the plug. If the p lug should still fail to t , your outlet may
be obsolete; contact a licensed el ectrician to rep lace it. Never attempt to defeat the safety
purpose of the polarized plug.
Power-Cord Protection: C are must be taken to ensure that p ower supply cords are routed
so as to avoid being damaged, such as by being walked on or pinched by items placed up on
or against them. You sh ould pay particul ar attention to cords at plugs, convenience recep -
tacles, and at the point where they exit from the pro duct.
Protective Attachm ent Plug: The pro duct may be equipped with an attachm ent plug with
overload protection. This is a safety feature. See th e operating instruction s for replacement
or directions to reset the protec tive device. If replacem ent of the plug is required, please
consult an authorized ser vice technician, and make s ure s/he has used a repl acement plug
that has the same overload protection as the or iginal plug as specied by the manufact urer.
Outdoor Antenna Grounding: If an outside antenna is connected to t he product, be s ure
the antenna system is grounded so as to provide some protection against voltage surges and
built-up static charge s. Article 810 of the National Electrical Code, ANS/NFPA 70 provi des
information with regard to prop er grounding of the mast and supporting structure, ground -
ing of the lead-in wire to an antenna -discharge unit, s ize of grounding co nductors, location
of antenna-disch arge unit, connection to grounding ele ctrodes, and requirements for the
grounding electrode (see gure).
Lightning: Lightning can cau se power surges, which may damag e or destroy your product.
For added protection, unplug it from the wall outlet and disconne ct the antenna or cable sys-
tem during a lightning storm or when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time.
Power Lines: An outsid e antenna system should not be located in the vicinity of overhead
power lines or other electric light or power circuits, o r where it can fall into su ch power lines
or circuits. When installing an outside antenna system, extreme care should be taken to keep
from touching such power lines or circuits, as c ontact with them might be fatal.
