TROUBLESHOOTING CHART

PROBLEM

Loss of power (cont,d)

CAUSE

Build-up of grass, leaves and trash under mower.

Dirty air tilter.

Low oil level/dirty oil.

Faulty spark plug.

Dirty fuel filter.

Stale or dirty fuel.

CORRECTION

Clean underside of mower hous-

 

ing.

Clean/replace air tilter.

Check oil level/change oil.

Clean and regap or change

 

spark plug.

Replace fuel filter.

Drain fuel tank and refill with

 

fresh gasoline.

 

Water in fuel.

 

Spark plug wire loose.

 

Dirty engine air screen/fins.

 

Dirty/clogged muffler.

 

Loose or damaged wiring.

 

Carburetor out of adjustment.

 

Engine valves out of adjust-

 

 

ment.

Excessive vibration

Worn, bent or loose blade.

 

Bent blade mandrel

 

Loose/damaged part(s).

Drain fuel tank and carburetor,

 

refill tank with fresh gasoline and

 

replace fuel filter.

Connect and tighten spark plug

 

wire.

Clean engine air screen/fins.

Clean/replace muffler.

Check all widng.

section.

Contact an authorized service

 

center.

Replace blade. Tighten blade

 

bolt.

Replace blade mandrel.

Tighten loose part(s). Replace

 

dama_led pads.

Engine continues to run when operator leaves seat with at- tachment clutch

engaged

Poor cut - uneven

Mower blades will not rotate

Poor grass discharge

Faulty operator-safety pres- ence control system.

Worn, bent or loose blade.

Mower deck not level.

Buildup of grass, leaves, and trash under mower.

Bent blade mandrel.

Clogged mower deck vent holes from buildup of grass, leaves, and trash around mandrels.

Obstruction in clutch mecha- nism.

Worn/damaged mower ddve belt.

Frozen idler pulley.

Frozen blade mandrel.

Engine speed too slow.

Travel speed too fast.

Wet grass.

Check wiring, switches and con-

 

nections. If not

 

corrected, contact an authorized

 

service center/

 

department.

Replace blade. Tighten blade

Level mower deck.

i ° Clean underside of mower hous- ing.

Replace blade mandrel.

Clean around mandrels to open vent holes.

Remove obstruction.

Replace mower ddve belL

Replace idler pulley.

Replace blade mandrel.

Place throttle control in =FAST" position.

Shift to slower speed.

Allow grass to dry before mow- ing.
