DOUBLE CHOCOLATE WAFFLES

Chocolate for breakfast? Why not? Or try these as a delightful ending to brunch or for dessert topped with your favorite ice cream and sauce.

Makes twenty 4-inch waffles

1cup semi-sweet mini chocolate morsels

3cups all-purpose flour

1cup cocoa, preferably Dutch process

23 cup granulated sugar

212 teaspoons baking powder

2teaspoons baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1teaspoon cinnamon

3cups reduced fat milk

23 cup vegetable oil

3large eggs

2large egg whites

112 teaspoons vanilla extract

Place the chocolate morsels in a small bowl and mix with one tablespoon of the flour so that the morsels are completely “dusted.” Reserve. Combine the remaining flour with the remaining ingredients in a large mixing bowl and combine until well blended and smooth. Let batter sit

5 minutes before using. Preheat your Cuisinart® Belgian Waffle Maker on setting #4 *(green indi- cator light will be illuminated when preheated).

Stir the flour coated chocolate morsels into the batter. Pour 3/4 cup batter onto preheated waffle maker grid. Using a heat-proof spatula, spread batter until evenly distributed. Allow batter to bub- ble for 5 – 10 seconds, then close cover of waffle maker. Indicator light will turn red. When light turns green again, waffle is ready. Repeat with remaining batter. For best results, serve immedi- ately. However, you may keep waffles warm in a 200°F oven until ready to serve.

*We recommend using setting #4 to achieve a crispy brown baked waffle.

Adjust the browning control if you prefer softer or crispier waffles.
