The Dialogic® CTbus/SCbus Adapter is used to interconnect Dialogic® CTbus boards with Dialogic® SCbus boards in the same chassis. Only one adapter is required per system.

Before You Begin

Protect Yourself from Electric Shock

The CTbus carries electrical signals. To reduce the risk of electric shock:

Switch off the power and remove power cords before opening the PC cover.

Do not re-attach power cords and switch on power to the PC while the PC cover is removed.

Protect the Board from Damage

Protect the Board from Static Electricity

CAUTION: All computer boards are sensitive to electrostatic discharge (“ESD”). Handle all static-

sensitive boards and components at a static-safe work area, and observe anti-static precautions at all times.

If you are not familiar with ESD safety precautions, visit http://www.dialogic.com/support/hwinstall to learn more.

Unpacking the Board

Unpack the Dialogic® CTbus/SCbus Adapter (“adapter”) according to the following steps:

1.Prepare a static-safeguarded work area.

2.Carefully remove the adapter from the shipping carton and the anti-static packaging. Handle the adapter by the edges and avoid touching the components.

3.Lay the adapter on the static-dissipative work surface.

Note: Place the adapter in static-shielding bags when carrying it from station to station.

CAUTION: Do not remove the adapter from the anti- static packaging until you are ready to install it. Observe proper anti-static precautions at all times.

Installing the CTbus/SCbus Adapter

Before installing the CTbus/SCbus Adapter, ensure that the Dialogic® boards in your chassis are positioned in the correct order. The board on which the adapter will be installed must be inserted in the first PCI slot adjacent to the ISA slot (Figure 1).

To install the Dialogic® CTbus/SCbus Adapter:

1.Locate the board that will be used to connect the CTbus/SCbus Adapter. It will be the card inserted in the first PCI slot adjacent to the ISA slot.

2.Align pin 1 of the CTbus/SCbus Adapter with pin 1 of the edge connector on the board (Figure 2). NOTE: Edge connector is not labeled.

SCbus, CTbus specifications

Eicon Networks has been at the forefront of developing advanced communication technologies, and among its notable offerings are CTbus and SCbus. These two technologies represent a significant advancement in the way data communication is handled, especially in industrial environments.

CTbus, or Communication Transport bus, is designed to facilitate high-speed data transfers between distributed systems. One of its main features is its ability to support various network topologies, offering flexibility in how devices are interconnected. This adaptability is crucial for complex industrial setups where different equipment might require specific configurations. CTbus operates on a robust protocol that ensures reliable data transfer, minimizing latency and maximizing throughput.

A key characteristic of CTbus is its resilience to environmental factors. Unlike typical communication systems that can be affected by electromagnetic interference or physical disturbances, CTbus employs shielding and filtering techniques that enhance its reliability in rugged industrial settings. It is particularly suited for applications that demand constant uptime, such as manufacturing process monitoring and control.

On the other hand, SCbus, or Serial Communication bus, is tailored for scenarios where simplicity, cost-effectiveness, and ease of integration are paramount. SCbus is built around a straightforward serial communication protocol that simplifies the connection of various devices. Its plug-and-play capability allows for rapid deployment, making it an excellent choice for smaller systems or where the complexity of CTbus is unnecessary.

One of the standout features of SCbus is its ability to connect a wide variety of sensors and controllers without the need for extensive configuration. This ease of use translates to reduced setup time, allowing industries to focus on productivity. Additionally, SCbus supports both master-slave and peer-to-peer architectures, making it versatile for a range of applications.

Both CTbus and SCbus utilize advanced error detection and correction mechanisms, ensuring data integrity during transmission. They also facilitate interoperability among different manufacturers’ devices, which is crucial in diverse industrial environments.

In summary, Eicon Networks' CTbus and SCbus provide distinct solutions tailored to different communication needs. CTbus excels in high-performance, resilient data communication, while SCbus prioritizes simplicity and ease of integration. Together, they offer comprehensive options for industries looking to enhance their data communication infrastructure.
