4 Installing the Printer Driver

The printer driver is provided on the “EPSON EPL-5800 Printer Software” CD-ROM shipped with your printer. It gives you control over your printer with Microsoft Windows Me/2000/98/ 95/3.1, Microsoft Windows NT® 4.0/3.51, or Mac OS 8.1 or later. With it, not only can you make basic printer settings like paper size and orientation, but also have access to a whole range of other options that will help you optimize the use of your printer.

When you install the printer driver, the EPSON Status Monitor 3 utility is also automatically installed. This utility gives you the option to view printer information such as the remaining amount of toner, and can be set up to notify you of errors when they occur. Refer to the Reference Guide for more information on the utility.

For Windows Users

Your computer must meet the following requirements to use the Windows driver included with the printer:

❏The computer must be running either Microsoft Windows Me/2000/98/95/3.1 or Windows NT 4.0/3.51

❏10 MB of free hard disk space

Follow the steps below to install the printer driver:

1.Make sure that the printer is off and that Windows is running.

2.Insert the printer software CD-ROM that comes with your printer into your CD-ROM drive. The Installer dialog box appears.
