Software

The programs that enable your computer to perform the tasks and functions you indicate.

System diskette

A diskette that contains the operating system.

Tracks

Addressable concentric circles on a diskette that resemble the grooves on a record and help to divide the diskette into separate accessable areas. There are 40 tracks on each side of a double-sided, double-density diskette and 80 tracks on each side of a double-sided, high-density diskette.

Write

To store data on a disk.

Write-protect

To prevent a diskette from being overwritten by placing a write- protect tab over the notch on the side of the diskette. When a diskette is write-protected, you cannot erase, change, or record over its con- tents.
