Printer Lights
The table below summarizes the functions of the printer lights. To diagnose problems indicated by the printer lights, see below.
Light | Meaning |

Red ) paper out | On: printer is out of paper, multiple sheets have fed, or the wrong |
| size sheet has fed. |
| Flashing: paper isn’t loaded for the currently selected paper path, |
| or paper is jammed. |
|
|
Red H ink (eight) | On: an ink cartridge is empty, or the Photo Black or Matte Black |
| cartridges were swapped during printing. |
| Flashing: an ink cartridge is low on ink. |
|
|
Green P power | On: printer is turned on. |
| Flashing: printer is receiving a print job, printing, replacing or |
| charging ink, or cleaning the print head. |
|

Diagnosing Printer Problems
First, check the printer’s lights (see below) or run a printer check (see page 96).
Lights | Explanation |

Green P power light | The printer is receiving a print job, printing, replacing or |
flashes | changing, or cleaning the print head. |
|
|
Red H ink light flashes | An ink cartridge is low on ink. Make sure you have a |
| replacement cartridge, then follow the steps on page 84 to |
| install it. |
|
|
Red H ink light on | An ink cartridge is out of ink, not installed, not installed |
| correctly, or is not compatible with the printer. Follow the |
| steps on page 84 to install or reinstall the cartridge |
| correctly. |
| The Photo Black or Matte Black cartridges were swapped |
| during printing. Replace the original cartridge type in use |
| before the error occurred. |
