5.Loosenlter1/2turnandallowasmallamount
ofoiltoleakfromtheoillter(thisallowsairto
bepurgedfromtheoillterandsupplyhosefrom
thehydraulicreservoir).Turnlterclockwise
untilrubbersealcontactsthelteradapter.Then
tightenthelteranadditional2/3to3/4turn.
6.Raisetherearofmachineupandsupportwith
jackstands(orequivalentsupport)justhigh
enoughtoallowdrivewheelstoturnfreely.
CAUTION
Raisingthemowerforserviceormaintenance
relyingsolelyonmechanicalorhydraulic
jackscouldbedangerous.Themechanicalor
hydraulicjacksmaynotbeenoughsupport
ormaymalfunctionallowingtheunittofall,
whichcouldcauseinjury.
DoNotrelysolelyonmechanicalorhydraulic
jacksforsupport.Useadequatejackstands
orequivalentsupport.
7.Ifeitherdrivewheeldoesnotrotate,oneorboth
ofthechargepumps(locatedonthetopofthe
mainpumpasshowninFigure14)mayhavelost
their“prime”.RefertoHydraulicSystemAir
Purgesection.
Note:DoNotchangehydraulicsystemoil(except
forwhatcanbedrainedwhenchanginglter),unless
itisfelttheoilhasbeencontaminatedorbeen
extremelyhot.
Changingoilunnecessarilycoulddamagehydraulic
systembyintroducingcontaminatesintothesystem.

Airmustbepurgedfromthehydraulicsystem
whenanyhydrauliccomponents,includingoil
lter,areremovedoranyofthehydrauliclinesare
disconnected.
Thecriticalareaforpurgingairfromthehydraulic
systemisbetweentheoilreservoirandeach
chargepumplocatedonthetopofeachvariable
displacementpump(Figure14).Airinotherpartsof
thehydraulicsystemwillbepurgedthroughnormal
operationoncethechargepumpis“primed”.

levertothemiddlespeedpositionandplacethe
driveleversinthe“drive”position.
Ifeitherdrivewheeldoesnotrotate,itispossible
toassistthepurgingofthechargepumpby
carefullyrotatingthetireintheforwardposition.
Note:Itisnecessarytolightlytouchthecharge
pumpcapwithyourhandtocheckthepump
temperature.Ifthecapistoohottotouch,turn
offengine.Thepumpsmaybedamagedifthe
pumpbecomestoohot.
Ifeitherdrivewheelstilldoesnotrotatecontinue
withstep4.
