Pull on latch plate (fig. a). If belt slides freely through latch plate, a locking clip MUST be used (see Pg. 45 “Locking Clip” section).
Some combination lap/shoulder belts with sliding latch plates may be converted into an “automatic locking mode” that will allow use without a locking clip. See vehicle owner’s manual and label on vehicle belts for instructions.
Some Emergency Locking Retractor belts will convert to Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) belts if you pull the belt all the way out. Refer to your vehicle owner’s manual.
