SECTION 4: OPERATIONS

Operation Safety

Your safety is important! Please follow the warnings below during this entire section:

To avoid serious personal injury, read and become familiar with the entire instruction manual before using this wide belt sander.

Damage to your eyes, lungs, and ears could result from failure to wear safety glasses, a dust mask, and hearing protec- tion while sanding with this machine.

Loose hair and cloth- ing could get caught in machinery and cause serious personal inju- ry. Keep loose clothing rolled up and long hair tied up and away from machinery.

Choosing Sandpaper

The grit you choose will depend on the type of work, the species of wood and the stage of finish- ing. Below is a chart that groups abrasives into different categories and shows which grits fall into each-one. We recommend using aluminum oxide sanding belts for the best results.

Grit

Type

60Coarse

80-100 Medium

120-150

Fine

The general rule of thumb is to sand a workpiece with progressively higher grit numbers, with no one grit increase of more than 50; however, the type of wood and desired finish will determine the best grit to use.
