Initiating or Resuming from Hibernation

Task	Procedure	Result
User-initiated	With the notebook on:	■	Power/standby light
Hibernation	■ Briefly press the power		turns off.
	button, or	■	Screen clears.
	■ Select Start > Shut Down
	> Hibernate. (If the
	Hibernate option is not
	displayed, press and
	hold shift.)
	✎If the notebook is in
	Standby, you must
	resume from Standby
	before you can initiate
	Hibernation.
System-initiated	If the notebook is running on
Hibernation	external power, the system
	does not initiate Hibernation.
	If the notebook is running on	■	Power/standby light
	battery power, the system		turns off.
	initiates Hibernation after	■	Screen clears.
	30 minutes of notebook
	inactivity.

Resume from user-initiated or system-initiated Hibernation.

Press the power button.

✎If Hibernation

was initiated by a critical low-battery condition, connect external power or insert a charged battery pack to resume.

■Power/standby light turns on.

■Your work returns to the screen.
