A key difference between extended distance clusters and CLX clusters is the data replication technology used. The extended distance cluster uses Fibre Channel and Linux MD software mirroring for data replication.

CLX clusters provide extremely robust hardware-based data replication available with specific disk arrays based on the capabilities of the HP StorageWorks Disk Array XP series, or the HP StorageWorks EVA disk arrays.
