Caring for the Combo Drive

To protect your drive during operation, observe the following precautions:

vRemove the disc from the drive before moving the drive.

vDo not insert foreign objects into the drive.

vDo not stack objects on the drive.

vDo not remove the drive cover or attempt to service the drive.

vDo not operate the drive under any of the following conditions:

High temperature, high humidity, or direct sunlight

Excessive vibration, sudden shock, or inclined surface

Excessive dust

Cleaning the drive

Wipe off soil on the drive using a soft cloth. If soil is persistent, use a cloth dampened with a diluted neutral detergent after squeezing all the water out. If liquid is allowed into the drive, it may cause a serious malfunction, an electric shock or a fire.

Do not apply solvents such as benzene or thinner. Chemical cleaners for home or industrial use may damage the coating of the drive.

Using the drive

This section contains information on using the Combo Drive.

Using single and double-sided DVD-RAM media

DVD-RAM media is available in single-sided and double-sided versions.

The 2.6 GB and 4.7 GB versions are single-sided. The 9.4 GB version is double-sided. To access the data on both sides of the media, you must remove the media from the drive, turn it over, and re-insert it into the drive.

Precautions for handling

Be careful when handling the removed disc. Debris, dust particles, fingerprints, smears, or scratches may impair recording and playback of the media. To clean dust or other debris, use a CD Cleaning Kit. Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the disc.
