5.2 PPRC Hardware Requirements

The hardware requirements for both the primary and secondary RVAs to support PPRC are:

RVA Model T82 Feature code 7001 PPRC-enabling LIC

(LIC level T04.05.xx is the minimum level) Remote Service capability

Note: We recommend that 4 GB of cache be installed on the RVAs to maximize performance. We also recommend four ESCON links between the two subsystems.

5.3 Invoking peer-to-peer remote copy

You initiate PPRC by using the ICKDSF PPRCOPY command with the options shown in Table 1.

Note: The ICKDSF PPRCOPY commands for the primary device are issued at the primary (application) site. Commands for the secondary device are issued at the secondary (recovery) site.

Note: The PPRCOPY QUERY VOLUME command should be used to display the subsystem identifier (SSID), serial number, and channel connection (logical) address (CCA) of a device. (The CONTROL CONFIGURE (DISPLAY) command does not work with the RVA. It works only with the 3990/9390 storage controls.)

For an example of using the PPRCOPY command, see 5.5, ªExamples of PPRCOPY Commandsº on page 36. For a more detailed description of the PPRCOPY command, see Device Support Facilities Users Guide and Reference, Release 16 Refresh with Peer-to-Peer Remote Copy , GC35-0033.
